Covid-19: NYSC members donate automated disinfection chamber to federal secretariat complex Uyo

The charge by the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim to Corps Members to come up with initiatives to tame the spread of coronavirus in their states of deployment has continued to generate results from the Corps Members.
Corps Members in Akwa-Ibom State took up the challenge and successfully completed the fabrication of an automated disinfection chamber and donated it for public use at the Federal Secretariat Complex Abak Road, Uyo.
While inaugurating the project, NYSC Akwa-Ibom State Coordinator, Mr. Amusan Oluwole commended the Corps Members for the initiative while he urged members of the public to assist the government in ensuring that the spread of COVID-19 is curtailed.
He said Corps Members under the auspices of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme of NYSC had recently produced and donated some items which include hand sanitizers, liquid soaps etc.
Amusan who charged organisations to borrow a leaf from what the Corps Members have done and replicate same in their various establishments also added that the Corps Members are available for consultation.
He said that the action of the Corps Members is a testimony to the abilities of Nigerian youths that they can excel if given the opportunity and necessary support.
While explaining the functions and the durability of the machine, the Lead Engineer, Corps Member Adetifa Omoyemi AK/19B/3470 stated that as long as there is stable power supply, the machine will work with full capacity.
Speaking further, the engineer said the durability of the chamber is dependent upon it's handling. He said the equipment will serve minimally for one year while he appealed for its proper maintenance in order to enable it last longer.
In his contribution, the lead Biologist, Corps Member Okoye Chisom AK/19B/3028 said, "we used PPA approved disinfectant which is Sodium hydrochloride in stipulated percentage so that it will not irritate the body but do the work of a disinfectant".
'We also added little disinfectant properties that will support the solution and make it effective. "Once it releases the spray and the disinfectant lands on the body, in maximum of five minutes contact, it starts doing the work".
"The difference between this chambers and hand sanitizers is that, this has to go through the body as the person turn 360 degrees and it touches the cloth, bag etc. Anyone who enters the chamber with any micro-organism, the organism will be neutralized while hand sanitizers are limited to the hands only", Okoye added.
Other members of the engineering team include: Kamar Folarin Florence AK/19B/1460, Tom Goodness AK/19B/4286 and Oche Ngbede Jerome AK/19A/1130. The Scientists comprised of Agoro Omotayo Ebenezer AK/19B/2124 and Moses Wisdom Chukwudiegwu AK/19B/3894.
Staff of other Federal establishments at the Federal Secretariat Complex Uyo also gave commendation to the Corps Members during the commissioning which was witnessed by Assistant Directors in NYSC and Corps Members.
