CAC GHB 261 : GRACE TIS A CHARMING SOUND

Hymn 261: Grace! 'Tis a charming sound, Harmonious to the ear; Heaven with the echo shall resound, And all the earth shall hear. Grace first contrived the way To save rebellious man, And all the steps that grace display Which drew the wondrous plan. Grace first inscribed my name In God's eternal book; 'Twas grace that gave me to the Lamb, Who all my sorrows took. Grace led my wandering feet To tread the heavenly road; And new supplies each hour I meet While pressing on to God. Grace taught my soul to pray And made mine eyes o'erflow; 'Twas grace that kept me to this day And will not let me go. Oh , let thy grace inspire My soul with strength divine! May all my pow’rs to thee aspire And al my days be thine.

CAC GHB 244 : NOT ALL THE BLOOD OF BEAST

Not all the blood of beasts-244 Not all the blood of beasts On Jewish altars slain Could give the guilty conscience peace Or wash away the stain. But Christ, the heav’nly Lamb, Takes all our sins away; A sacrifice of nobler name And richer blood than they. My faith would lay her hand On that dear head of Thine, While, like a penitent, I stand, And there confess my sin. My soul looks back to see The burdens Thou didst bear When hanging on the cursed tree, And hopes her guilt was there. Believing, we rejoice To see the curse remove; We bless the Lamb with cheerful voice, And sing His bleeding love.

CAC GHB 245 : COME O THOU ALL VICTORIOUS LORD

Hymn 245: Come, O Thou all-victorious Lord! Thy power to us make known; Strike with the hammer of Thy Word, And break these hearts of stone. O that we all might now begin Our foolishness to mourn; And turn at once from every sin, And to our Savior turn! Give us ourselves and Thee to know, In this our gracious day; Repentance unto life bestow, And take our sins away. Conclude us first in unbelief, And freely then release; Fill every soul with sacred grief, And then with sacred peace. Impoverish, Lord, and then relieve, And then enrich the poor; The knowledge of our sickness give, The knowledge of our cure. That blessèd sense of guilt impart, And then remove the load; Trouble, and wash the troubled heart In the atoning blood. Our desperate state through sin declare, And speak our sins forgiv’n; By perfect holiness prepare, And take us up to Heav’n.

CAC GHB 248 : A WHITHER SHOULD I GO

248-Ah whither should I go For the love of Christ constrains us 2 cor 5:14 Ah whither should I go Burdened and sick and faint To whom should my troubles show And pour out my complaint My Saviour bids me come Ah why do I delay He calls the weary sinner home And yet from Him I stay What is it keeps me back From which I cannot part Which will not let my Saviour take Possession of my heart? Some cursed thing unknown Must surely lurk within Some idol which I will not own Some secret bosom-sin. Jesus the hindrance show Which I have feared to see Yet let me now consent to know What keeps me out of thee? Searcher of hearts in mine Thy trying power display Into its darkest corners shine And take the veil away I now believe in thee Compassion reigns alone According to my faith to me O let it, Lord be done! In me is all the bar Which thou wouldst fain remove Remove it and I shall declare That God is only love

CAC GHB 252 : MY SINS O THE PEACE GIVING THOUGHT

MY SINS O THE PEACE GIVING THOUGHT-252 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven whose sin is covered Ps 32:1 My sins o the peace giving thought Are buried beneath the wild wave Since God in His mercy has brought His wonderful power to save Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea Tis the word of the Lord and sufficient for me Though the billows may roar and may break on the shore They are lost in its depths and can reach me no more Of the place where they’re buried Only God holds the key In the depths, the depths of the sea No more shall they rise to distress Or trouble the peace of my soul As o’er them in power to bless God’s waves of forgiveness shall roll No tempest can bring to the light The sins he buried for aye My soul precious is in His sight And He will protect it always

CAC GHB 257 : AMAZING GRACE HOW SWEET THE SOUND

MAKE MELODY IN YOUR HEART TO THE LORD 257-Amazing grace how sweet the sound Those who receive the abundance of grace and the face gift of righteousness reign in life Rom 5:17 Amazing grace how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me; I once was lost, but now am found Was blind, but now I see. T'was grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed. Through many dangers, toil and snares, I have already come; 'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home. Yes, when this heart and flesh shall fail And mortal life shall cease I shall possess within the vial A life of joy and peace. When we've been there ten thousand years Bright shining as the sun, We've no less days to sing God's praise Than when we've first begun.

CAC GHB 251 : GREAT GOD OF WONDERS ALL THE WAY

Hymn 251: Great God of wonders! All thy ways Display the attributes divine; But countless acts of pard’ning grace Beyond thine other wonders shine: Who is a pard’ning God loke Thee? Or who has grace so rich and free? In wonder lost, with trembling joy We take the pardon of our God: Pardon for crimes of deepest dye, A pardon bought with Jesus blood: Who is a pard’ning God like Thee? Or who has grace so rich and free? Pardon-from an offended God! Pardon- for sins of deepest sye! Pardon- bestow’d through Jesus blood! Pardon-that brings the rebel nigh! Who is a pard’ning God like Thee? Or who has grace so rich and free? O may this strange, this matchless grace. This God-like miracle of love, Fill the wide earth with grateful praise, As now it fills the choirs above! Who is a pard’ning God like Thee? Or who has a grace so rich and free?

CAC GHB 256 : AND DOST THOU SAY ASK WHAT THOU WILT

MAKE MELODY IN YOUR HEART TO THE LORD 256-and dost thou say ask Ask what I shall give you 1 Kings 3:5 And dost Thou say, “Ask what thou wilt”? Lord, I would seize the golden hour; I pray to be released from guilt, And freed from sin and Satan’s power. More of Thy presence, Lord, impart, More of Thine image let me bear; Erect Thy throne within my heart, And reign without a rival there. Give me to read my pardon sealed, And from Thy joy to draw my strength; To have Thy boundless love revealed In all its height, and breadth, and length. Grant these requests—I ask no more, But to Thy care the rest resign; Living or dying, rich or poor, All shall be well if Thou art mine

CAC GHB 260 : ARISE MY SOUL ARISE SHAKE OFF GUILTY FEARS

Arise my soul arise-260 We have an advocate with the father Jesus Christ the righteous 1 Joh 2:1 Arise, my soul, arise; shake off thy guilty fears; The bleeding sacrifice in my behalf appears: Before the throne my surety stands, My name is written on His hands. He ever lives above, for me to intercede; His all redeeming love, His precious blood, to plead: His blood atoned for all our race, And sprinkles now the throne of grace. Five bleeding wounds He bears; received on Calvary; They pour effectual prayers; they strongly plead for me: “Forgive him, O forgive,” they cry, “Nor let that ransomed sinner die!” The Father hears Him pray, His dear anointed One; He cannot turn away, the presence of His Son; His Spirit answers to the blood, And tells me I am born of God. My God is reconciled; His pardoning voice I hear; He owns me for His child; I can no longer fear: With confidence I now draw nigh, And “Father, Abba, Father,” cry.

CAC GHB 259 : MY SOUL SO HAPPY IN JESUS

MY SOUL IS SO HAPPY IN JESUS-259 Rejoice in the Lord always again I say rejoice Phil 4:4 My soul is so happy in Jesus, For He is so precious to me; His voice it is music to hear it, His face it is Heaven to see. I am happy in Him, I am happy in Him; My soul with delight He fills day and night For I am happy in Him. He sought me so long ere I knew Him, When wand’ring afar from the fold; Safe home in His arms He hath bro’t me, To where there are pleasures untold. His love and His mercy surround me, His grace like a river doth flow; His Spirit, to guide and to comfort, Is with me wherever I go. They say I shall some day be like Him, My cross and my burden lay down; Till then I will ever be faithful, In gathering gems for His crown

CAC GHB 262 : A DEBTOR TO MERCY ALONE

Not because of deeds done by us in righteousness but in virtue of His son’s mercy are we saved Titus 3:5 A debtor to mercy alone Of covenant mercy I sing Not fear with Gods righteousness on My person and offering to bring The terrors of law and of God With me can have nothing to do My Saviour’s obedience and blood Hide all my transgressions from view The work which his goodness began The arm of his strength will complete His promise is Yea and Amen And never was forfeited yet Things future nor things that are now Nor all things below or above Can make Him His purpose forgo Or sever my soul from His love My name from the palm of His hands Eternity will not erase Impressed of His heart it remains In marks to inedible grace Yes I to the end shall endure As sure as the earnest is given More happy but not more secure The glorified spirits in heaven.

CAC GHB 265 : HAPPY THE MAN THAT FINDS THE GRACE

Hymn 265: Happy the man that finds the grace, The blessing of God's chosen race, The wisdom coming from above, The faith that sweetly works by love. Happy beyond description he Who knows, The Saviour died for me, The gift unspeakable obtains, And heavenly understanding gains. Wisdom divine! Who tells the price Of wisdom's costly merchandise Wisdom to silver we prefer, And gold is dross compared to her. Her hands are filled with length of days, True riches, and immortal praise, Riches of Christ, on all bestowed, And honour that descends from God. To purest joys she all invites, Chaste, holy, spiritual delights; Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her flowery paths are peace. Happy the man who wisdom gains, Thrice happy who his guest retains! He owns, and shall for ever own, Wisdom, and Christ, and heaven are one.

CAC GHB 278 : MY LOAD OF GUILT DOTH WEIGH ME DOWN

MY LOAD OF GUILT DOTH WEIGH ME DOWN-278 Be of good cheer thy sins are forgiven thee Matt 9;2 My load of guilt doth weigh me down It has bowed down my head O Lord, remove my stoney heart Give me a heart of flesh Weighed me down beneath a load of sin Death makes me sore afraid Do wash me in Thy precious blood And drive my fears away My heart cannot find peace and rest Until I cry to Thee Beneath the cross to plead and say That, “Jesus died for me” Grant that I may have faith, dear Lord Obtain this experience Until old things shall pass away And all things become new

CAC GHB 275 : NAUGHT HAVE I GOTTEN BUT WHAT I RECEIVED

Naught I have gotten-275 Naught have I gotten but what I received; Grace hath bestowed it since I have believed; Boasting excluded, pride I abase; I’m only a sinner, saved by grace! Only a sinner, saved by grace! Only a sinner, saved by grace! This is my story, to God be the glory— I’m only a sinner, saved by grace! Once I was foolish, and sin ruled my heart, Causing my footsteps from God to depart; Jesus hath found me, happy my case; I now am a sinner, saved by grace! Tears unavailing, no merit had I; Mercy had saved me, or else I must die; Sin had alarmed me fearing God’s face; But now I’m a sinner saved by grace! Suffer a sinner whose heart overflows, Loving his Saviour to tell what he knows; Once more to tell it would I embrace— I’m only a sinner saved by grace!

CAC GHB 272: HIS LOVE AND GRACE I FOUND

MAKE MELODY IN YOUR HEART TO THE LORD Hymn 272: His love and grace i found Since Jesus made me whole And all my sins the saviour put away And glory now abounds In billows o’er my soul I never lov’d Him better than today. I never lov’d Him better than today I love the good old straight and Narrow way, And glory fill my soul Since Jesus made me whole I never lov’d Him better than today. I’ve left the paths of sin The world and all its charm And now i’m on the good old Fashioned way I’ve peace and joy within I’m safe from all alarm I never lov’d Him better than today. I;ll serve him here below Thro’ all life’s fleeting years For soon the lord will come in Bright array But this one thing i know That fills my heart with cheer I never lov’d him better than today.

CAC GHB 291: HOSANNA UNTO DAVID'S SON

MAKE MELODY IN YOUR HEART TO THE LORD Hymn 291: Hosanna unto David’s son, Hosanna, raise the strain. For blessed is he that will come, In the name of the Lord. Hosanna unto David’s son The angel host did sing All creatures, join the loud refrain Hosanna to our King. Hosanna for the Hebrew throng Spread palm fronds on the road Hosanna we have brought our gifts For to prepare His way. Both young and old sing hosanna Before his suffering comes Today we all sing hosanna As Jesus reigns above As thou received the children’s praise Accept the prayers we bring And join the heavenly host to sing Hosanna to our King.

CAC GHB 289 : CHILDREN OF JERUSALEM

Hymn 289: Children of Jerusalem Sang the praise of Jesus’ Name: Children, too, of modern days Join to sing the Saviour’s praise. Hark, hark, hark, while infant voices sing, Hark, hark, hark, while infant voices sing Loud hosannas, loud hosannas, Loud hosannas to our King. We are taught to love the Lord, We are taught to read His Word; We are taught the way to Heav’n: Praise for all to God be giv’n. Parents, teachers, old and young, All unite to swell the song; Higher and yet higher rise, Till hosannas fill the skies.

CAC GHB 294: HAVE YOU READ THE STORY OF THE CROSS

MAKE MELODY IN YOUR HEART TO THE LORD Hymn 294: Have you read the story of the cross, Where Jesus bled and died; Where your dept was paid by his precious blood That flowed from his wounded side? He died of a broken heart for you, He died of a broken heart; Upon a tree, for you, for me, He died of a broken heart. Have you read how they placed the Crown of thorn Upon his brow for you When he prayed, “forgive them oh, forgive; They know not what they do?” Have you read how He saved the Dying thief, When hanging on the tree, When he looked with pleading eyes And said, Dear Lord, remember me?” Have you read that he looked to Heaven and said, ‘Tis finished ‘Twas for thee! Have you ever said, “ I thank Thee, Lord, For giving thy life to me?”

CAC GHB 299 : BEHOLD THE SAVIOUR OF MANKIND

299 Behold the Saviour of mankind Behold the Saviour of mankind Nailed to the shameful tree! How vast the love that Him inclined To bleed and die for thee! Hark, how He groans, while nature shakes, And earth’s strong pillars bend; The temple’s veil in sunder breaks, The solid marbles rend. “’Tis done!” The precious ransom’s paid, “Receive My soul,” He cries! See where He bows His sacred head! He bows His head, and dies! But soon He’ll break death’s envious chain, And in full glory shine: O Lamb of God! was ever pain, Was ever love, like Thine?

CAC GHB 296 : GO TO DARK GESTHSEMANE

Hymn 296: Go to dark Gethsemane, ye that feel the tempter’s pow’r; Your Redeemer’s conflict see; watch with Him one bitter hour, Turn not from His griefs away: learn of Jesus Christ to pray. Follow to the judgement-hall; View the Lord of life arraigned O the wormwood and the gall! O the pangs His soul sustained! Shun not suffering, shame, or loss: learn of Christ to bear the cross. Calvary’s mournful mountain climb; there, adoring at His feet, Mark that miracle of time, God’s own sacrifice complete. “It is finished!” hear Him cry; learn of Jesus Christ to die. Early hasten to the tomb where they laid His breathless clay All is solitude and gloom; Who hath taken Him away? Christ is risen! He meets our eyes: Savior, teach us so to rise.

CAC GHB 302 : GLORY BE TO JESUS

Hymn 302: Glory be to Jesus, who in bitter pains poured for me the life blood from his sacred veins! Grace and life eternal in that blood I find, blest be his compassion infinitely kind! Blest through endless ages be the precious stream which from endless torment doth the world redeem! There the fainting spirit drinks of life her fill; there, as in a fountain, laves herself at will. Abel's blood for vengeance pleaded to the skies; but the blood of Jesus for our pardon cries. Oft as it is sprinkled on our guilty hearts, Satan in confusion terror-struck departs; oft as earth exulting wafts its praise on high, angel hosts, rejoicing, make their glad reply. Lift ye then your voices; swell the mighty flood; louder still and louder praise the precious blood.

CAC GHB 300 : GREAT HIGH PRIEST WE SEE THEE STOOPING

Hymn 300: Great High priest, we see thee Stooping, With our names upon thy breast; In the garden groaning, drooping, To the ground with horrors prest: Wond’ring angels stood confounded, To behold their maker thus; And can we remain unwounded, When we know ‘twas all for us? Nothing but Thy blood, O Jesus, Can our wayward souls convert; Nothing else form guilt release us, Nothing else can melt the heart. Law and terrors do but harden, All the while they work alone; But the sense of blood-bought pardon Can dissolve a heart of stone. Jesus, all our consolations Flow from thee, the sovereign good; Love, and faith, and hope, and patience, All are purchas’d by thy blood: From thy fullness we receive them; We have nothing of our own: Freely thou delight’st to give them To the needy who have none.

CAC GHB 305: MUST JESUS BEAR THE CROSS ALONE

MUST JESUS BEAR THE CROSS ALONE-305 And the fellowship of his sufferer Phil 3:10 Must Jesus bear the cross alone, And all the world go free? No, there’s a cross for everyone, And there’s a cross for me. Upon the crystal pavement down At Jesus’ piercèd feet, Joyful I’ll cast my golden crown And His dear Name repeat The consecrated cross I’ll bear Till death shall set me free; And then go home my crown to wear, For there’s a crown for me
