OnePlus 5T in "Sandstone White" is now official, sales open on January 9th

Image
After leaking out earlier today, the OnePlus 5T in a brand new color, "sandstone white" has just gone official on the company's website. The new OnePlus 5T finish pays tribute to the original OnePlus "sandstone" designs and has the same textured finish on its back that makes it different from all other phones out there. It is also looks very similar to the limited Star Wars edition 5T released exclusively to India earlier. Interestingly, OnePlus seems to be drawing inspiration from the Pixel 2 XL "panda" look, as this newest 5T model has a similar white back with black front approach and one button in a contrasted red color (in this case, it's the alert slider). The white paint also completely conceals antenna lines on the bottom. The new sandstone white OnePlus 5T comes as a high-end configuration: with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The price will be the same as the similar model that is currently offered in black, $560 for an u

Initially, the new model will likely be headed to China only and we do not know if and when OnePlus plans to bring this to Western markets. The new OnePlus 5T in sandstone white pays tribute to the original OnePlus "sandstone" designs and features the same textured finish on its back that makes it different from all other phones out there. Curiously, OnePlus seems to be drawing inspiration from the Pixel 2 XL "panda" look, as this newest 5T model has a similar white back with black front approach and one button in a contrasty red color. Sandstone OnePlus 5T gets a heartfelt teaser

Image
Remember those rumors about  a sandstone version of the OnePlus 5T ? Well, they are 100% accurate, as OnePlus has just published a teaser that basically confirms the new device. That unique texture that customers could enjoy when buying a sandstone smartphone seems to be very popular among OnePlus fans. To emphasize the passion built around this particular version of its products, OnePlus released a hearty teaser that reproduces some of the most endearing statements about the sandstone texture. As expected, many customers bought their first OnePlus smartphone because of the sandstone texture. Others, praise the grip and how easy it is to handle such a phone. The last message comes directly from OnePlus and reads: “ We listened .” That's clearing an indication that OnePlus plans to launch another sandstone smartphone very soon. Speaking of which, rumor has it an official announcement could go live as early as January 5, but the teaser doesn't give us any hints (sadly).

New OnePlus Switch app allows users to migrate data to a new OnePlus smartphone

Image
OnePlus continues make some of its apps available separate downloads in order to be able to update them faster and more often.  After launching several of its own apps  in the Google Play Store, the company announced a new way to easier transfer all your data from a device to a new OnePlus smartphone. The new OnePlus Switch application is compatible with just about any smartphone that runs Android 5.0 or higher and allows users to migrate all of their data including contacts, messages, and photos stored on the previous device to a new  OnePlus smartphone . For the time being, the application supports the transfer of Contacts, Messages, Call Logs, Calendar, Photos, Video, Audio and Applications (without data). However, OnePlus confirmed that it will soon provide “Applications with data” transfers as well. OnePlus Switch does not support iOS devices, so if you plan on dumping your iPhone for a OnePlus smartphone, you won't be able to transfer your data using this application.

Global OxygenOS 5.0 OTA update for the OnePlus 5, based on Android 8.0, has been canceled

Image
Late last month (which in turn makes it late last year), the OnePlus 5 received an t:OTA update that included OxygenOS 5.0. The latter is based on Android 8.0, thus giving owners of the device new capabilities like Picture-in-Picture, which allows you to watch videos while running an app in the background. Autofill completes blank fields based on how you filled out similar forms in the past. And Android Instant Apps lets you run an app from your browser without stopping to install it on your phone. Other features that come with the update include a revised camera UI for the t:OnePlus 5, a new beauty effect for Portrait Mode and enhanced optimizations for Wi-Fi and Battery Saver. On December 22nd, a small number of users started to receive the update, while a wider global distribution of it started a few days later. But today, a post on the OnePlus forum brought the global update to a screeching halt. Because of a bug found on Oxygen 5.0, OnePlus has canceled the global rollout of

Is a Sandstone OnePlus 5T coming on January 5?

Image
A few days ago we mentioned that OnePlus could be prepping a snazzy Sandstone finish version of its recent OnePlus 5T flagship and it could be due out January 5. This got revealed a while ago thanks to a Weibo post which features a promotional poster stating that  "The classic returns" , followed by a stylized schematic of  Shi , one of the Chinese hieroglyphs for the ilk of "stone".  Furthermore, the dirty white color of the teaser itself could be a dead giveaway for the color of this intriguing finish, though that's a bit of a stretch. As the more memorable of you might recall, that same sandstone finish was a core design feature of the very first OnePlus device, the OnePlus One, which was a rather interesting finish choice back at the time. Later on, the OnePlus 2 also received the sandstone finish albeit the texture at the back was smoother and not as pronounced.  With the advent of all-metal devices like the OnePlus 3 and 3T, sandstone fin

OnePlus 5 gets Face Unlock feature via OxygenOS open beta 3

Although none of its previous products had the security feature, OnePlus promised that at least one of them will get Face Unlock in the not so distant future, the  OnePlus 5 . Last week, the company's co-founder Carl Pei said that by popular demand, Face Unlock will be implemented into the OnePlus 5 software as well.  True to his promise , the Face Unlock feature is now being rolled out to OnePlus 5 units enrolled in the open beta program.
