Sony may announce new Xperia smartphones on January 8

Image
Three unannounced Xperia smartphones leaked online in the last couple of weeks:  Xperia XA2 ,  Xperia XA2 Ultra , and Xperia L2. Although we thought they will be unveiled next month at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018, there's a small chance we're going to see them going live early next week. Sony Mobile has just confirmed that it will be present at the company's main press event scheduled for Monday, January 8. Apparently, the team at Sony Mobile plans to offer us “ exclusive news & updates ,” which could only mean one thing: new phones. Obviously, this could be just a big misunderstanding and Sony's mobile division wants to share some news about products that are already available on the market. Either way, we're going to tune in to Sony's press conference starting at 5 pm PST / 1 am GMT / 2 am CET, on January 8. Best case scenario we'll learn more about Sony Mobile's plans for its  Xperia lineup . Perhaps we'll be given a glimpse at what&#

Sony Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra, and L2 press renders leak out, rear fingerprint scanners included

Image
In 2017, Sony released no less than eight Xperia smartphones, from affordable to expensive models, and it looks like the company has similar plans for this year. While many fans are probably waiting for Sony's 2018 high-end phones (which should include an Xperia XZ2), we're now going to talk about the mid-range Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra, and the lower-end Xperia L2. We've already seen leaked images showing the Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra, and L2. However, now, thanks to Venture Beat, we can take a look at press renders of the new handsets - most likely, Sony will use these to promote the three phones once it announces them.      Unlike last year's Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra, which are powered by MediaTek processors, the XA2 and XA2 Ultra will feature octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipsets. Both handsets should sport 1080p screens in different sizes: 5.2 inches on the Xperia XA2, and 6 inches on the Xperia XA2 Ultra. The Ultra model should come with a dua

CAD-based renders of the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra reiterate fingerprint on back

Sony's Xperia XA line is still fairly young, with two generations of devices behind its back. It usually introduces a pair of devices — a “regular-sized”  XA  and phablet-grade  XA Ultra . They are midrange handsets with super-thin side bezels, but still hefty chin and forehead, and are geared towards selfie-loving camera users, with high-res front and back cameras and LED flashes for both. With the  Xperia XA1  and  XA1 Ultra  soon to be a year old, odds are good that Sony will be introducing a new pair soon. And a supposed leak has showed us just what the Xperia XA2 and  XA2 Ultra  might look like just a couple of days ago — same razor-thin side bezels, same chin and forehead. Now, serial leakster @OnLeaks, who happens to have a pretty good track record on this type of leaks, has tweeted rendered images, which are allegedly based on leaked dimensions, which website Tiger Mobiles somehow got a hold of. We see the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner re-iterated — this would be
