Vivo Set To Introduce On-Screen Fingerprint Scanning

Image
As have previously been touted in rumors spanning as far back as November, Vivo, a young smartphone brand based out of Dongguan in China, has come up with the world’s first in-display fingerprint scanning t:smartphone. Introduced at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Vivo set the standards and defines a new era in mobile interaction with its futuristic in-display fingerprint smartphone The in-display fingerprint technology supported by Synaptics supports multiple interfaces which are activated only when needed. This technology is heralded as better and more convenient than other authentication options currently available to smartphones without sacrificing design or simplicity. In a press release which w

No, this is not a leaked Samsung Galaxy S9 photo

Image
No, despite some reputable blogs portraying this blurry, low-res picture to be a   "real"   and   "leaked"   photograph of Samsung's next two flagship phones, this is NOT a leaked photo of the Samsung Galaxy S9. And it sure isn't real either. Just as other bloggers and journalists who received this picture in their mailboxes, we also got that initial kick of adrenaline that comes with having an early peek of a hot gadget that nobody has seen just yet. The low resolution of the photo suggested authenticity, as if someone was in a rush to take the picture, prosecuted by the secret Samsung police (yeah, we totally made this up), and the hard-to-trace link to a Chinese Weibo account directs us into depths that the average English speaker would not go into. BEWARE OF FAKE PHOTOS But after that first-look excitement, it was obvious that something was wrong. The angle the picture is taken suggests that a camera reflection should be seen, so

Nokia 4, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 1 rumored to be joining Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 8 (2018) and Nokia 9

Image
A couple of newcomers might be getting ready to join Nokia's rumored 2018 smartphone lineup. An APK file for the default Nokia camera app has revealed that the Nokia 4 and Nokia 7 Plus will be joining the Nokia smartphone lineup this year. Other Nokia branded phones already leaked include the  Nokia 6 (2018) , Nokia 8 (2018),  Nokia 9  and the Nokia 1. The latter will be Nokia's first Android One (Go Edition) model. No specs belonging to the Nokia 4 and Nokia 7 Plus have been leaked, but judging by the name, we would expect that the Nokia 7 Plus will sport a display larger than the 5.2-inches seen on the Nokia 7. Additionally, the Nokia 7 Plus should be powered by a more powerful mobile platform than the Snapdragon 630 SoC that you'll find inside the Nokia 7. The Nokia 1 could come with an IPS LCD screen carrying a 720 x 1280 HD resolution. There could be 1GB of RAM and 8GB of native storage inside. On January 17th, we expect to see The Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 8 (2018) and

Which phone has the best and Strongest battery life in 2017

Image
Which  phones  had the best battery life in 2017? And does battery life on phones ever improve or does it stay roughly the same throughout the years? At PhoneArena, we do a standardized proprietary battery test on all phones that we review. We test every device diligently: we make sure that its screen is set at the same brightness level and to ensure this we measure brightness level down to the nit with a special colorimeter, we also turn off external notifications and other sources of power drain that might skew the results of our test. For some phones, we double-test if we have doubts about the results. This gives us a comprehensive picture of battery life numbers for all major flagships not just in 2017, but also through the wider lens of time. As 2017 winds down to a close, we take a look at all the major flagship phones of the year and their battery life performance, and we compare the results to the average battery life of flagships in 2016 and 2015 to see

OxygenOS 5.0.1 update for OnePlus 3 and 3T brings adaptive mode, more

Image
OnePlus continues to bring new features and improvements to the OnePlus 3 and 3Tsmartphones. There have been at least two important updates that these devices received this month only, but OnePlus doesn't seem to have finished and we can expect more to be released early next year. Although the last OnePlus 3 and 3T update of the year is nothing major, it still brings a couple of new features that were requested by fans. Also, the December security patch is making its way into both OnePlus smartphones less than a month after its official release. System Added support for aptX HD; Added Wi-Fi hotspot device manager; Added “adaptive mode” screen calibration; Updated Android security patch for December; General bug fixes and stability improvements. Since this is an incremental OTA (over the air) update, it will be available for a small number of OnePlus 3 and 3T owners, but a broader roll-out will begin in the next few days, so you should be able to benefit from th

LG G6 scheduled to receive Android 8.0 Oreo by February, but there's a catch

Image
LG G6  is one of the many flagships that has yet to be updated to the most recent version of Android. Although the South Korean company promised to deliver Android Oreo to the LG G6 as fast as possible, it looks like the update won't make it live until next year. As some of you probably know by now, LG has already kicked off an  Android Oreo beta program for the G6 , but it's only available in China. Now we have more information that indicates the Asian version of the LG G6 might be the first to receive the update. According to LG Customer Service, an Android Ore update for the  LG G6  will be released by February, which could mean that those who own the smartphone might get it as early as next month. However, as mentioned earlier, LG's customer service refers to the H870S model, which is specifically built for the Middle East region. It remains to be seen how long it will take LG to make the update available to other G6 models. LG G6 VIEW MORE + 12 imag

Xiaomi Mi A1 now receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update

Image
Xiaomi's first Android One smartphone, the  Mi A1  is finally eligible for an Android 8.0 Oreo update after a short period of beta testing. Unlike many of its Android smartphones that are selling exclusively in China, the Mi A1 is available in a lot more countries. Also, since it's part of the Android One program, the smartphone should be among the first to receive a major Android OS update. Unfortunately, it took Xiaomi quite a long time to bring Oreo to the Mi A1. Initially  introduced in China in early September , the Mi A1 made its debut in  select European markets  one month later. Soon after, Xiaomi promised an Android 8.0 Oreo for the Mi A1 will be available before the end of the year. Today's announcement fulfills that promise, even if not all Xiaomi Mi A1 owners will be able to update to Android 8.0 Oreo by the end of December 31. Finally, it's worth mentioning that Xiaomi added the December security patch in the update and  enabled fast charging

Alleged Huawei P20, P20 Plus, and P20 Pro designs leak out, triple cameras everywhere

Image
In the last three years,  Huawei  released P8, P9, and P10 series of smartphones, so we're now expecting the company to introduce a P11 family. However, this might not happen. According to a few leaked images originating from  China , Huawei's next generation P-series handsetsshould be called P20. Said images show schematics that allegedly reveal the overall design of three new Huawei P20 smartphones - a regular P20, a P20 Plus, and a P20 Pro. Apparently, all three handsets will offer triple rear cameras (though positioned differently). According to a previous report, Huawei's upcoming triple rear camera will have a resolution of 40 Megapixels, and "5x hybrid zoom" - in theory, this should be a great camera, but it remains to be seen if it can outclass other high-end smartphone cameras.   It looks like the Huawei P20 and P20 Plus will have pretty similar designs, with fingerprint scanners on the front, and triple cameras positioned asymmetrically on th

Apple starts offering its $29 battery replacements today, two days earlier than expected

Image
A couple days ago, Apple apologized for throttling the CPU of certain iPhone models.  Apple  says that it did this so that the handsets' lack of prime battery power wouldn't shut them down when handling certain tasks. Along with the apology came a deal from the company. Since weak batteries are at the heart of the issue, Apple is allowing you to replace the cells on the iPhone6 and up for $29. That is a $50 discount from the usual price of $79. The deal was expected to start on January 1st 2018 and runs through the end of next year. An Apple spokesman said that it expected to need more time to set up the sale, but added that the company is ready to start offering $29 battery replacements starting today. He did caution that batteries for some models might be in limited supply at the moment. While Apple rivals like Samsung, Motorola, LG and HTC have taken this opportunity to distance themselves from Apple's actions, it remains to be seen exactly what kind of consumer ba

Camera app update reveals names of some unannounced Nokia smartphones

Image
HMD Global has quite a few  Android   smartphones  in the pipeline, so  Nokia  fans should be thrilled about the perspective of having a much larger portfolio at their disposal. We've already reported about two possible Nokia-branded  smartphones  coming next year,  Nokia 1 and  Nokia 6 (2018) . However, the Finnish company plans to launch a lot more  devices  in 2018, not just those two that we already know about. Luckily, someone found his way into the latest version of  Nokia   Camera   app  and learned more about HMD's upcoming products. Apparently, the latest version of the  Camera   app  that was released for the  Nokia  5, contains the logos of some unannounced  Nokia   smartphones .  Nokia 1 is present in this list , along with other  smartphones  that are already available on the market such as the  Nokia 2 ,  Nokia 3 ,  Nokia 5 ,  Nokia  6,  Nokia  7 and  Nokia 8 . But there are also  devices  that we didn't even hear about yet such as  Nokia  4 and

Is the LG G6+ coming to AT&T and other US carriers next year?

Image
The LG G6 is already available in the United States and customers can buy one from all major carriers, but the slightly improved version, the LG G6+ isn't officially available for purchase in the country. Of course, you could go ahead and buy the international version on Amazon, but that will not come with a warranty and it's not even working with all US carriers, as you'll only be able to use it on AT&T and T-Mobile. However, it appears that an AT&T version of the LG G6+ that goes by model number H871U has just been spotted on LG's open source website. The bad news is we can't confirm the H871U is indeed the LG G6+, although we do know that the regular variant comes as H871. There are also three other versions of the LG G6+ listed on the same website, which might or might not correspond to the other major carriers in the United States: LG LS993U (Sprint), LG VS988UB (Verizon) and LG H872UBL (T-Mobile). If you're not aware, the LG G6+ comes with 128

OnePlus 5 gets Face Unlock feature via OxygenOS open beta 3

Image
OnePlus 5T  is one of the not so many smartphones that offer Face Unlock, a face recognition system that adds another layer of security. Although none of its previous products had the security feature, OnePlus promised that at least one of them will get Face Unlock in the not so distant future, the  OnePlus 5 . Last week, the company's co-founder Carl Pei said that by popular demand, Face Unlock will be implemented into the OnePlus 5 software as well.  True to his promise , the Face Unlock feature is now being rolled out to OnePlus 5 units enrolled in the open beta program. Aside from Face Unlock and the December security patch, OxygenOS open beta 3 brings several other improvements and many bug fixes. You can find below the full changelog as published by OnePlus: Recorder Added app shortcut on Launcher. System Added Face Unlock; Optimizations for vibrations; Fixed connection issue of 5G Wi-Fi; General bug fixes and improvements; Updated Android security patch for Decem
