Best movies about space 2010-2019

Space exploration is one of the most interesting areas in movies, as well as in the real world. Making this list, we realized that not all the pictures are one hundred percent worthy of taking their place, some of them were even severely criticized. But given that the theme of space is not the most popular in movies, we had to choose from what we have. So, here are the best space movies that have been released over the past 10 years. We hope that the next decade will give us more good movies on the theme of space and not only.

Apollo 18 (2011)

"Apollo 18" - a film made in the genre of "found footage", which in recent years has been popularized in blockbuster films as a "Paranormal phenomenon". The actions of "Apollo 18", as it is not difficult to guess, take place in space. The plot with a story and horror, creates a slightly different view of the game of fabricated realism. Conspiracy theorists may find something interesting here, but the average viewer may be bored.

Nevertheless, the basics of the film are quite attractive. Spanish Director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego manipulates various films and videos to recreate a grainy historical appearance.

The visual scheme of Apollo 18 is convincing for the first hour, carefully planned by the Director, who follows plausible camera angles and motivated confessions, keeping the picture well-integrated into the lunar modules and landscapes.
Prometheus (2012)

Legendary Director Ridley Scott ("Alien, "" blade Runner") returns to his sci-Fi origins in this epic adventure teeming with thrilling action and stunning visuals.

A team of scientists and researchers travel to the darkest corners of the universe in search of the origins of human life. Instead, they find a dark world that hides a terrifying threat that can destroy not only them, but all of humanity!

The film "Prometheus" has collected conflicting reviews, but rightfully takes its place in the list of the best films about space.

Gravity (2013)

Alfonso Cuaron's "gravity" about astronauts coping with a natural disaster is a Grand and spectacular film. Watching the astronauts of Sandra Bullock and George Clooney go about their business, you will feel that the Hollywood blockbuster understands the essence of the work that many can not imagine without feeling dizzy.

Panoramas of cosmonauts in the dark of space are informative and beautiful. But the most surprising and impressive thing about "Gravity" is not its scale, indecision, or sense of wonder. The fact is that in fact this is not so much a film about space and astronauts, and not even about a specific disaster. It's more of a high-tech version of a survival story.

With all its stunning exteriors, this is actually a movie about emotions. And he explores them with simplicity and directness, allowing the actors ' faces and voices to carry the burden of meaning. This is a film about what happens to the mind and body after a disaster.

Europa Report (2013)

We are not alone — this is what the six astronauts on Board a private expedition to Jupiter's fourth moon, Europa, are striving to prove. A fascinating feature of Sebastian Cordero's "found footage" style is presented as a fact-based documentary in which the mission control commander (Embeth Davidtz) acts as the narrator for a video shot inside and outside the module during its two-year journey.

A fictional story has its origins in real events. It is based on the discovery of water in November 2011 under the ice of Jupiter's moon Europa. The mission, funded by private sources, aims to confirm the presence of water and, more importantly, explore the ocean life that may exist in it.

However, we know from the beginning that their journey was doomed. The crew lost contact with Earth about nine months later. The combination of archived images and impressive digital images of our galaxy for the eyes and ears of the layman is trustworthy.

There is a sequence that perfectly crosses the line between technological authenticity and cinematic nerve-racking. As soon as the team lands on Europa, the movie returns to some slasher movie that makes a little less expensive for a delightful philosophical exploration.

Interstellar (2014)

In the near future, the Earth was devastated by drought and famine, leading to food shortages and extreme climate change. When humanity tries to solve the problem of extinction, a mysterious gap in the space-time continuum is discovered, giving humanity the opportunity to live. A team of researchers must travel beyond our solar system in search of a planet that can support life.

The crew of the Endurance must think big and go beyond any human in history as they embark on an interstellar journey into the unknown. However, through a wormhole, one hour is the equivalent of seven years ago on Earth, so the mission won't work if people on Earth are dead by the time they do. And Coop, the Endurance pilot, must choose between seeing his children again or securing the future of humanity.

The film "interstellar" is worthy of being not only in the list of the best films about space, but also in the list of the best films of the decade.

The Martian (2015)

Ridley Scott's film the Martian pays homage to simple human qualities such as intelligence, teamwork, sacrifice and determination.

Based on the 2011 novel by Andy Weir, the film "the Martian" shows the near future when American astronauts conduct manned missions to the Red planet. A team that includes commander Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain) and botanist mark Watney (Matt Damon) are preparing to return home to Earth when a deadly storm suddenly hits them.

Mark Watney was struck by debris and is presumed dead, Lewis reluctantly takes the rest of his team into space. As it turned out, Watney wasn't really dead. He was left alone on Mars, with a limited supply of food and water to survive.
Passengers (2016)

The avalon spacecraft is in the midst of a 120-year journey to establish a colony on the planet Homestead II. There are 5,000 passengers and 255 crew members on Board, sleeping in cryogenic capsules. Ship control is automated. After the ship collided with debris while passing through an asteroid field, mechanic Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) woke up.

Jim is puzzled to find that he is alone on the ship, only thirty years have passed, and there are still ninety years of flight to go. He can't Wake the team, but at the same time, he can't activate his capsule and go back to sleep. With only the Android bartender Arthur in the company, his mind gradually begins to leave him. Then he became interested in Aurora lane (Jennifer Lawrence), a female passenger in one of the capsules. He argues about whether he should Wake her up to be his companion, knowing that if he does, she will be trapped and unable to complete the journey. He makes the decision to do so, deceiving her that her awakening was another accident.

And although the critics spoke negatively about" Passengers", in General, the film can be considered worthy to get into our list of the best films about space of the outgoing decade.
Life (2017)

"Alive" is a scary science fiction Thriller about a team of scientists on the International space station whose mission turns into a primal fear when they find a rapidly evolving life form that caused extinction on Mars, and now threatens the crew and all life on earth.

The cast is probably the best thing in the movie. Nevertheless, fans of movies about space should watch it, at least for a tick.

First Man (2018)

"The first man" is a biographical film about Neil Armstrong, directed by Damien Chazelle. The film is known for avoiding Patriotic cliches in favor of human reality.

It took several accidents, failures, tragedies, and untiring hours to finally send Apollo 11 to the moon. And this is partly because of Ryan Gosling's game, which highlights Armstrong's stoic grief over the death of his young daughter from brain cancer 7 years before landing on the moon.

Ad Astra (2019)

Brad pitt demonstrates powerful acting in this absolutely thrilling, fantasy Thriller set in space. When a mysterious life-threatening event hits Earth, astronaut Roy McBride (brad pitt) embarks on a dangerous mission through the solar system to uncover the truth about his missing father (Tommy Lee Jones) and his doomed expedition, which now, 30 years later, threatens the entire universe.

There were plenty of science fiction movies about people who had to go into outer space to find themselves, but none of them looked like James gray's masterful work "To the stars."

The film is unlikely to appeal to those who are looking for an action adventure or space travel. This is more " Solaris "than" gravity "or"Martian". But the film works wonders by exploring masculinity, telling the story of how we become our fathers.

This is a detailed storytelling based on one of the best roles in brad pitt's career and remarkable technical elements at all levels. This is a special movie.
