There Is Nothing Special About GOtv Antenna

If you are wondering whether you can use GOtv with other antennas, the answer is yes you can. GOtv is a pay TV service offered by Multichoice Africa. For those who are already familiar with GOtv, you may already know that GOtv comes with an antenna known as GOantenna but what you may not know is that there is nothing really special about the antenna. Which means you can just buy the GOtv decoder without the antenna if you already have an antenna in your house and you will be saving a lot – almost a month GOtv premium subscription.

GOtv is a digital terrestrial TV service, not satellite TV like DStv. The service is deployed through a TV mast just like other TV broadcasting services, which means any antenna within the GOtv transmitter coverage can receive the signal so far as it is connected to GOtv decoder.

I carried out an experiment to confirm this. First, I used a Binatone outdoor antenna to check this, the signal was just like that of the GOtv antenna, depending on where the Binatone antenna was facing. Then I tried an indoor antenna (Good Fellows), lo and behold the signal strength was 96% and the signal quality was 100% which far exceeds the result from the outdoor antennas.

The positions of the antennas may have contributed to the signal strength and quality, but one advantage I find with the indoor antenna is that unlike the outdoor antenna which require you going out to reposition the antenna in other to get a better signal, you can easily reposition it in case of poor signal.

However, if you prefer to use outdoor antenna, you may want to get a remote controlled antennaso that you can easily adjust the antenna using the remote control in case of poor signal.
