How I Upgraded My Laptop To Windows 10 In 3 Easy Steps

For some days now, Microsoft has been rolling out windows 10 upgrade for windows 7 and windows 8/8.1 users. If you haven’t done your upgrade, you may want to do so because windows 10 rocks.
Windows 10 combines a more intuitive integration of both touchscreen and desktop interface, a host of new features and a better performance. It also has some smart features.

I have upgraded to windows 10 and I will share with you how I did it in a moment, but first, here is an easier way to do the windows 10 upgrade, even though this method will take a longer period of time.
If your windows update is set to automatically download and install update, by now you should have a window icon on the right side of your task bar.

My windows update was set to automatic download but manual installation. I installed all the available updates but for some reasons I do not know, I didn’t see windows icon after the update.
Anyways, if the icon is on your task bar, just click on it to reserve your upgrade.
Once the upgrade is reserved, the download will begin on the background and you will be notified once the download is complete.
Getting winows 10
The download will continue whenever your PC is connected to the internet until it is completed. This may take some days. Once you get the notification, follow the onscreen instruction to upgrade to windows 10.
But if for any reason you didn’t see the windows icon even after downloading and installing all the required and recommended update just like me, don’t worry, just follow my lead.
First, here are the minimum system requirement for windows 10 upgrade:
  • Processor: 1GHz or faster processor or SoC
  • RAM: 1GB for a 32-bit version, or 2GB for 64-bit
  • Hard disk space: 16GB for a 32-bit OS; 20GB for 64-bit OS
  • Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
  • Display: 1024×600

Upgrading to windows 10

Step #1
Head over to Microsoft windows 10 download page to download the windows 10 installer.
Step #2
After downloading the windows 10 installer, run the software to begin the windows 10 download. At the lunch of the installer, you will be presented with two options; either to upgrade your PC or to create installation media for another PC.
Windows 10 setup
You can choose the later option if you want to download it for later use, otherwise proceed with the first option.
When you click next, the download will start and this may take some hours because the file is relatively large – about 4GB.

I recommend you do the download with simple server for PC. You can get about 5GB of data cap for 24 hours for just NGN 70 on MTN. And MTN has a pretty decent network in terms of internet speed.
Step #3
After the download, the next step is to accept the Microsoft license terms and begin the upgrade. Make sure that ‘keep windows settings, files and apps’  is checked so that you won’t lose any thing after the upgrade.
Windows 10 Installation
Ensure that you PC is plugged to the power supply because the upgrade can take a lot of time, then sit back and wait for the upgrade to be completed. You PC may restart several times during this process. After the upgrade, your PC will restart for the final time to finalize the configuration and boom! you are good to rock with windows 10.

Troubleshooting

After the upgrade I noticed that sleep mode was missing on my PC, but I have fixed that.

That was the only problem I encountered after the upgrade, but in case you encounter any other error, refer to Microsoft help page.
